Phoenix Orchid Zhi Lan Xiang

Phoenix Orchid Zhi Lan Xiang

Wu Dong Mountain, in Guangdong Province, China, is known for its ancient terraced slopes and tree-sized tea plants that produce solely phoenix oolongs. This tea, from the orchid (Zhi Lan Xiang) dancong varietal, hails from one plant on a small third-generation family farm. Most is sold locally; we were lucky to obtain this small, exquisite lot and are proud to be its only U.S. purveyor.

The craftsmanship is apparent in the consistent-size leaves, which are finely twisted and release an intoxicating fragrance of orchid and tropical flowers. The balanced, woody-sweet flavor has musky notes of white peach.
Prepare with water just off a boil, as the producer does; experiment with a slightly lower temperature if desired. This tea has incredible staying power- steep the leaves a dozen times or more, savoring the arc of fragrance and flavor.
