An iconic taste of the season, Darjeeling First Flush teas are eagerly awaited each spring. These light-bodied, intensely fragrant teas are produced in small quantities for only a few weeks, usually beginning in early April; only the new growth buds and first leaves are harvested by hand, and they undergo a unique hard-wither process.

The vertiginous Arya Estate, founded in 1885, drops from nearly 6,000 feet to 3,000 feet in elevation over just 300 acres. South of Darjeeling town, this farm has been organic since 2000. This lot, made in the proprietary “diamond” style, has long, twisted leaves that unfurl with flavors of sweet roots—chicory and licorice—crowned by notes of sorrel and dark caramel.
