Green Pu-Erh Beencha

This is a large, circular pressed cake (beencha), a bit smaller than a frisbee. Just flake off a small section of tea from the cake and brew it up. The slip from the tea factory states the following: “[...] We send specialized professionals to the Thousand Family Tribes Ancient Mountains to choose wild harvested, large leaf, old grove Qiao Mu tea trees. We blend  70 percent spring tips and 30 percent valley buds together [...]” With an aroma of freshly cut bamboo, it is slightly earthy but sweeter in taste than other pu-erhs. We invite you to try for yourself. Each beencha weighs 0.8 of a pound (12.8 ounces).

The original packing slip from the factory says:

"Our company specializes in sourcing famous teas from authentic mountains and quality is our main focus, utilizing professionals to make such choices for our valued patrons. We send specialized professionals to the Thousand Family Tribes Ancient Mountains to choose wild harvested, large leaf, old grove Qiao Mu tea trees. We blend 70 percent spring tips and 30 percent valley buds together, using skilled laborers and stone mills, hand pressed, for your nuanced tasting."

Brewing Notes
  • Start with your favorite spring or filtered water. Use boiling water.
  • Break off about a tablespoon in volume for a 6oz serving.
  • Rinse the leaves once, then steep for 2-3 minutes. Remove the leaves when ready. (Rely on taste, not color.) Re-steep to make another cup! Use a large enough strainer basket to allow the leaves to open and release their flavor. Play with the amount of tea, the water temperature, and steeping time. Get to know the tea!
